Cleveland Clinic Florida hosts Dr. Cash for Grand Rounds
Less than a week ago I was just outside of Miami at the Cleveland Clinic Florida and we all had a wonderful day of learning and information exchange. Cleveland Clinic has always been a leader in the use of music in a hospital setting and they have been recommending this to patients for years. The man in the picture, Dr. David Friedman, is a hand surgeon at Cleveland Clinic and is the man who heard about our headphones at a meeting in Cleveland and immediately contacted me about getting more information. The presentation that I gave there for Grand Rounds was "Music as an Adjunct to Anesthesia: a review of the research." I was told that they had twice as many attendees as usual and that everyone was interested to hear more about music during surgery. Before the noon Grand Rounds presentation, I gave a 30-minute recital in the hospital lobby where they have a beautiful baby grand piano. After the Grand Rounds, I gave another 30-minute recital in the clinic lobby at the other end of the hospital. Both were well-attended by staff, patients and families and I was able to interact with the audience and answer their questions and even make suggestions to them. This is the sort of thing that I would love to do more of, so if your city would like to have me come and do a presentation, just ask them to contact me through the website: www.HealingMusicEnterprises.com/speaker.html

Surgical Serenity Headphones being introduced into more and more hospitals
Our Lullaby CD and Music for Memory Care continue
to do well in sales as more and more people order the download and the
actual CD's. We have now added all of the lyrics in download
format to the lullabies and songs and people report that they really
enjoy singing along. People report that they listen to the
lullabies not only with babies and infants, but also in the ICU, CCU,
emergency room, and just when resting or getting over a migraine or some
other painful experience |

Headphone Study at Louisville V.A. Hospital on-going
The V.A. Hospital here in Louisville is conducting a medical research study on our headphones to determine how much less anesthesia and pain medication is used by patients having abdominal surgery. We are quite excited about what they are finding but can't reveal any information until the study is officially finished. If you are interested in conducting a study at your hospital or clinic, let us know and we can help propose many ideas for possible protocols. Until next month, keep your brain and body well-fed with healing music! here

About Alice Cash | |||||||||
For nearly two decades, I've been helping people use the music that
they already love to heal their lives and increase their wellness
quotient!
I
am one of the world's only clinical musicologists and hold
Bachelors and Masters degrees in piano performance, a Ph.D. in
musicology and a Master of Social Work in clinical social work. I
am also a licensed clinical social worker. I work with people and
diagnoses of all kinds, enabling them to find healing, acceptance and
hope. Many people assume that I am a music therapist but I am not. I was trained originally as a concert pianist, then as a musicologist, then as a clinical social worker. I love performing, researching, and teaching and have put them all together in a career called "Music Medicine." However, the field of music therapy is much better known and has degree programs and credentialing that is very valuable and important. To hear me speak, and watch me in action "is to have a day that will amaze, educate, motivate, and inspire you!"
