Teaching is something that I love to do and have
done since I was 17 years old. In the beginning I taught only
piano lessons. After college, I began adding music theory, music
history and music appreciation to all my lessons. I have taught
at six major universities in my career, but when I struck out on my
own in the field of Music Medicine, I also started my own teaching
forum. That is my Healing Music Academy. I offer both
in-person classes as well as online classes. You can even take
one of my classes for free by signing up for my mailing list.

you can sign up for "Music and Mind-Body Connection." The online
classes will come to you as weekly emailed lessons This Fall I have started a new series entitled "Music Healing 101," in which I go into the basics of how to use the music you already know for healing purposes. The class meets every Sunday afternoon at 4:00-5:30 at 2720 Frankfort Avenue. Tuition for each class is just $25.00 and hand-outs are provided. | Surgical Serenity Headphones Clinical Research begins at V.A. Hospital in Louisville | |||||||||

In the two years that my headphones have
been available, many people have suggested that it would be really great
to have a reputable hospital or medical school do a clinical study with
them. About two months ago, the Veteran's Hospital in Louisville
said they would like to do just that and started going through all the
paperwork and university requirements to make that happen.
They will be looking at what the requirements are for anesthesia and pain medication afterwards for those that do use the headphones compared to those that don't have the headphones. My understanding is that when this particular study is over that they will be willing to do more research with them looking at different possible outcomes and possibly with other types of music. Currently the headphones are loaded with classical piano miniature that are largely unfamiliar to the general public. In the near future, I will also have the option for patients to choose a jazz play list or a New Age play list. The music will always have a steady pulse with the tempo of the resting healthy heartbeat and a simple texture, no matter what the genre is. A few weeks ago I spoke with well-known New Age artist and composer, Steven Halpern and I'm hoping that he will work with me on this! There are also so many other wonderful living composers that I would like to commission to write music for surgery! Stay tuned for all the exciting developments. |

Speaking is something that I love to do because for me, speaking is a form of teaching that allows me to reach far more people than if I were still a college professor. Although I love being associated with colleges and universities, I also love the freedom of being able to fly anywhere in the country or the world to be a keynote speaker on "The Healing Power of Music." I have received invitations from as far as Hawaii, Spain, and Turkey and always try to fulfill these invitations and deliver more than I'm asked to deliver. I consider that the knowledge and experience I have acquired is something to be shared and experienced by as many other people as possible! I am always happy to stay in private homes and come when the fares are affordable. I consider myself to be a sort of "music healing missionary" and love to travel to far-away or remote places as well as the major cities and highways and by-ways of life! am one of the world's only clinical musicologists and hold
Bachelors and Masters degrees in piano performance, a Ph.D. in
musicology and a Master of Social Work in clinical social work. I
