A Brief Editorial on Michael Jackson
So many people are asking me what I think about Michael Jackson and if I think his status is being elevated beyond what his achievements merited?  It's really hard to separate Michael Jackson the musician and dancer and entertainer/superstar from Michael Jackson the human being who was abused by his father and never really had a childhood.  As a musician and a psychotherapist I have all kinds of conflicting feelings.  Above all, I am not here to judge his behavior because none of us really knows what went on behind his childhood doors or behind his grown-up doors!

I do believe that Michael's death is a tremendous loss to the musical and artistic world.  Michael did try to heal the planet and the hearts of all people with his songs like "We Are the World" and "Black or White."  He was a prodigiously talented singer, dancer and song-writer and it would seem that his his abusive childhood really warped his ideas about what is normal and what is not.  He was a tortured soul whose body and mind were apparently deteriorating rapidly.  Michael had become painfully dependent on prescription drugs and had no trouble finding physicians who would prescribe anything in the quantities that he wanted.  The parallels with Elvis are striking.  Elvis only lived to be 42; Michael made it all the way to 50.  I will keep his children, family and friends in my prayers for a long time to come.

    Surgery Headphones Update
Thanks to everyone who took me up on the offer to get a free e-book in return for distributing some brochures about the surgery headphones.  I will let this offer stand for another month.  Just email me if you're willing to distribute brochures in your community and let me know which e-book you'd like!  You can also send people to www.HealingMusicEnterprises.com/surgical_headphones.

People continue to order the music for surgery headphones and tell me that their friends, family and physicians are totally unaware of this powerful addition to the surgical world.  I have written quite a few articles on this topic for the www.ezinearticles.com site and of course I have a whole blog devoted to the topic at www.surgery-with-music.blogspot.com.  But in this day and age we need television ads and billboards and exposure on national TV!  I'm working on this but it takes lots of money to buy advertising time and space.

Every surgeon and anesthesiologist that I've ever talked to about this, believes that it's a great idea that is destined to succeed but I need YOUR help too!  If you would just tell all of your friends, family and physicians about the importance and the benefits of music through headphones during surgery, I'd be ever so grateful.  If you're willing to distribute some brochures or postcards, let me know and I'll drop some in the mail to you.  Or better yet, I could send you one to download and duplicate!  Just let me know.  To show my gratitude to you, I'll send you a free copy of my book, "Notes on Tuning Your Life with Music."  All brainstorms and ideas will be gratefully appreciated!

Do We Need a New National Anthem?

A fascinating article appeared in the Washington Post a few weeks ago regarding our national anthem and it's unfortunate un-singability as we approach the 4th of July holiday!

" In the Age of Karaoke, more people (including me) like to join in the singing when they strike up the national anthem at public occasions. No one can stop you, no matter how embarrassed she might be by your obvious lack of talent. It's always disappointing when you're invited to stand and enjoy some high school glee club or famous opera singer. But chances are that even the opera singer won't get it right."  Here's a link to the article ...continue reading here
